The Citadel Takes Precautionary Measures for Appalachian State Football Game; American Flag Stickers to be Distributed

The Citadel Department of Athletics, in association with Charleston Police and Citadel law enforcement officers, will have increased security for Saturdays football game with Appalachian State. Kickoff for the Southern Conference opener for both schools will be at 4 p.m. at Johnson Hagood Stadium.

Director of Athletics Les Robinson has stated that 15,000 American flag stickers will be handed to fans as they enter the facility. The Citadels cheerleaders will distribute approximately 2,000 miniature stress-footballs during the game. In addition, a pregame moment of silence and a non-denominational prayer will be heard prior to the playing of the National Anthem. The Citadel Regimental Band will play the anthem.

Large purses, backpacks and similar hand-carried items will be not allowed inside the stadium. Purses and anything else carried into the stadium will be subject to search at all entrances to the stadium.

Because of a Federal Aviation Administration ban on air traffic near any stadium or arena, the all-Citadel Alumni Skydiving Teams presentation of the game ball has been cancelled for this game.

The Citadel, under first-year head coach Ellis Johnson, is 0-1 on the young season, having dropped a 35-7 decision at nationally ranked Georgia Tech on September 1. The Bulldogs had a scheduled off week on Sept. 7, and the Sept. 14 game at Western Carolina was postponed and will be made up on Nov. 17. Appalachian State is 1-1 on the season.
